International Mother Language Day

Objective: The Department of Humanities celebrated the International Mother Language Day on 21 February 2025. The event's objective was to encourage students to express their thoughts and ideas in their mother tongue, fostering a stronger connection with their linguistic and cultural heritage.
Participating Students: 50 students from BA participated.
Event Details: The Department of Humanities (MSOSH), MUIT Lucknow Campus, organized the letter-writing competition on February 21, 2025, in observance of International Mother Language Day. The event commenced with an inaugural session graced by esteemed faculty members and dignitaries. Dr. Neeraj Jain, Dean Academics, praised the initiative, stating that "celebrating one’s mother tongue is essential to preserving our cultural and intellectual diversity." Adding to this sentiment Dr. Rupam Singh, Dean, emphasized that "language is the soul of a culture, and such events empower students to remain rooted in their heritage."
Following this the competition began with students being given a theme related to language, culture, and identity. Each participant was required to compose a letter in their native language, highlighting the importance of language preservation and cultural heritage. Their submissions were carefully evaluated by a panel of judges, including Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Dr. Sarita Verma, and Shri Ram Prakash Dixit.
After a thorough assessment of the entries, Vishal Kumar Singh (BA II Year) secured the first prize, followed by Vanshika (BA I Year), who won the second prize, and Shubha Dwivedi (BA II Year), who claimed the third prize. Three students, Sheelu Tiwari, Pratishtha Gupta, and Aman Singla, were awarded consolation prizes for their exceptional writing in their native dialects. Dr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, Hindi, remarked that "mother language is not just a medium of expression but a repository of values and traditions. “Dr. Vijay Srivastava, Coordinator, highlighted that "the overwhelming student response reflects their deep emotional connection with their native languages."
The event was coordinated and conducted smoothly with the active support of faculty members from the Department of Humanities, ensuring a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants.
Students’ feedback: Students expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the competition, stating that it allowed them to reconnect with their mother tongue and express their ideas more authentically. One student shared, "This competition helped me realize the beauty of my mother tongue and encouraged me to use it more often." Another remarked, "I never thought writing in my native language would be this fulfilling. I hope we have more events like this in the future!" The overwhelmingly positive feedback reflected the importance of such initiatives in fostering a deeper appreciation for linguistic heritage.
