Comprehensive Report on Spoken Tutorial Program by IIT Bombay

Session 2024–25

Introduction

The Spoken Tutorial Project, developed by IIT Bombay, is a national initiative under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), Ministry of Education, Government of India. It provides self-paced, audio-video learning tutorials in multiple Indian languages for various free and open-source software (FOSS) and programming tools.

In alignment with the Government of India’s Digital India mission, Maharishi University of Information Technology partnered with IIT Bombay for the academic session 2024–25 to offer Spoken Tutorial modules to students across departments and campuses.

Program Objectives

  • To empower students with essential software skills using an interactive, flexible, and accessible learning format.
  • To introduce industry-demanded open-source technologies in a structured academic framework.
  • To support skill-based learning, aligned with NEP 2020 guidelines.
  • To bridge the gap between academia and industry by enhancing technical competence.

Execution Strategy at MUIT

  • Orientation Sessions were held for students and faculty to explain the goals and benefits of the Spoken Tutorial program.
  • Registration drives were conducted department-wise with the support of dedicated coordinators.
  • Students were given access to the Spoken Tutorial platform where they could watch tutorials, take assignments, and appear for certification exams.
  • Faculty mentors guided students throughout the learning journey and resolved academic and technical doubts.
  • Weekly progress was tracked using reports generated by IIT Bombay’s portal.

Conclusion

The Spoken Tutorial Program by IIT Bombay, implemented at Maharishi University of Information Technology during the 2024–25 session, has been a resounding success. With the participation of over 4,000 students, the initiative has not only enhanced technical capabilities but also fostered a culture of self-learning and certification.

The university looks forward to scaling this initiative, making it an integral part of its skill development and academic framework, contributing to the vision of a Digitally Empowered India.
