Workshop on “Basic and Advanced Bioinformatics Tools Providing Insight into Prediction and Analysis of Protein Structures”
Date of Visit: 29th August 2025
Organised by: Maharishi School of Sciences in association with IQAC
Objective: The Workshop on “Basic and Advanced Bioinformatics Tools Providing Insight into Prediction and Analysis of Protein Structures” was organised by Maharishi school of Sciences (MUIT Lucknow Campus) in association with IQAC on 29th August 2025. The workshop was designed to bridge theoretical learning in biological sciences with computational applications in bioinformatics. Its aim was to give students a deeper understanding of protein structure prediction methods along with practical training in computational tools.
Participating Students: Undergraduates and Postgraduate students of Maharishi School of Sciences and Maharishi School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Event Details: The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Nishant Kumar, Dean, MSOS, who emphasized the transformative potential of bioinformatics in advancing modern biological research and allied sciences.
The technical session was led by Dr. Aman Chandra Kaushik, Scientist, CSIR-CIMAP, Lucknow, who delivered an in-depth lecture on Bioinformatics and computational biology.
He began with an introduction to the basics of bioinformatics, covering fundamental concepts such as sequence alignment, database utilization, and molecular modeling, thereby providing students with a strong conceptual foundation. Progressing further, he illustrated advanced approaches for protein structure prediction and explained the relevance of computational methods in analyzing biological data.
A significant highlight of the session was the live demonstration of bioinformatics tools and software platforms, which allowed participants to explore databases, visualize protein structures, and perform predictive analyses. This interactive demonstration not only familiarized students with the operational aspects of bioinformatics resources but also showcased their applications in research. Following the lecture and demonstrations, a hands-on training module engaged students in practical exercises involving protein modeling and structural analysis. The program concluded with an interactive Q&A session.
Students’ Feedback: The students expressed that the workshop was highly enriching, offering them an opportunity to bridge classroom concepts with practical computational applications. They particularly appreciated the clear explanation provided by the resource person on protein structure prediction and the clarity with which theoretical frameworks were connected to hands-on demonstrations. Many participants shared that the workshop boosted their research interest and motivated them to pursue higher studies and careers in bioinformatics, computational biology, and related fields.
Acknowledgements: The Maharishi School of Sciences conveys its deep appreciation to Dr. Aman Chandra Kaushik, CSIR- Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP), Lucknow for delivering an intellectually stimulating session that seamlessly integrated theory with practice.
