Industrial Visit to RSB Transmissions (I) Ltd. Chinhat, Lucknow (U.P.)
Date of Event: 20th September, 2025
Organised by: Maharishi School of Engineering and Technology
in association with MIRC and IQAC
Objective: The Maharishi School of Engineering & Technology, MUIT Lucknow Campus, successfully organized an industrial visit to Chinhat, Lucknow (U.P.) on 20th Sept 2025. The visit aimed to provide students with practical exposure to the generation and distribution of thermal power and to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world industrial practices.
Participating Students: The visit was organized for Diploma and B. Tech students of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from the 3rd and 5th semesters.
Visit Details: The industrial visit began with a comprehensive observation of the entire manufacturing process, starting from raw material handling, machining, heat treatment, fabrication and welding, assembly, quality testing, and painting, leading up to the final dispatch. Students were introduced to the automotive component manufacturing and quality control processes in a systematic manner.
The visit covered different sections of the plant, beginning with the Raw Material and Stores Section, where castings, forgings, and raw steel materials were stored. Here, students understood the process of material handling and inventory management. In the Machining Section, they witnessed CNC and SPM-based machining of shafts, gears, axle beams, and housings, along with demonstrations of precision cutting, drilling, and finishing.
The Heat Treatment Section exposed them to processes like hardening, tempering, and case carburizing, which impart strength and toughness to components. Moving forward, the Fabrication and Welding Section showcased welding of heavy structures such as booms, arms, and frames using both robotic and manual welding technologies. At the Assembly Section, students observed the integration of machined and fabricated parts into final assemblies, including propeller shafts, axles, and gearboxes, where balancing and fitting operations were also demonstrated.
In the Quality Control and Testing Section, end-of-line testing for vibrations, torque transmission, and durability was highlighted, along with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods. The visit also included the Paint Shop / Surface Treatment Section, where anti-corrosion coating, surface preparation, and spray-painting systems were explained.
During the expert interaction session, Mr. Ashish Kumar Tiwari (Head HR–Training) welcomed the students and shared valuable insights into the overall functioning and training activities of RSB Transmissions (I) Ltd. He highlighted the significance of skill development and industry-oriented learning for future engineers. Ms. Smriti Shukla (HR) elaborated on safety protocols, environmental management practices, and the role of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) in ensuring sustainable and secure plant operations, emphasizing adherence to safety norms and environmental regulations.
The visit was successfully coordinated by Dr. Adesh Kumar Mishra and Mr. Sunil Swarnkar.
Feedback: The industrial visit to RSB Transmissions Ltd was highly beneficial and informative. It provided students with a strong practical understanding of understanding of driveline systems, material sciences, precision machining, and system integration and its technical complexities. The exposure to real-world industry practices greatly helped students to connect their classroom knowledge with professional applications.
Acknowledgements: We express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Ashish Kumar Tiwari (Head HR–Training) and Ms. Smriti Shukla (HR) for their guidance during the visit. We also extend our thanks to our respected Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (Prof. Bhanu Pratap Singh), Registrar (Dr. Girish Chhimwal), Dean Academics (Dr. Neeraj Jain, Lucknow Campus), Dean MSOET (Dr. Kalyan Acharjya), and Sr. AO (Dr. Rajesh Singh) for their continuous encouragement and support in organizing this visit.
