“Expert Lecture: The Legacy of Ancient Wisdom in Modern Economy”

Date of Event: 30th October 2025

Organised by: Maharishi School of Business Management in association with IQAC

Objective: The Maharishi School of Business Management (MSOBM) has organized an expert lecture on “The Legacy of Ancient wisdom in Modern Economy” on 30th October 2025 at MUIT Lucknow Campus in association with IQAC. Furthermore, a key objective was to establish the direct relevance of Ancient timeless principles to contemporary business practices, leadership, and the modern economic environment. The lecture aimed to align the department's teaching methodologies with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, specifically promoting the move toward holistic, multidisciplinary, and value-based learning.

Participating Students: UG Students of BBA and B. Com

Event Details: The expert lecture commenced punctually with a dignified and ceremonial opening, anchored skilfully by Dr Hansa Jauhari. The program was formally inaugurated with the traditional Lamp Lighting Ceremony followed by a welcome address by Dean-MSOBM, Dr Sandhya Sinha. The lecture on “The legacy of Ancient Wisdom in modern Economy” was delivered by Dr Manisha Shukla, Associate Professor, University of Lucknow. Dr Manisha Shukla’s subsequent lecture proved to be both highly informative and engaging. She explored core themes by presenting compelling evidence from Historical Researches to illustrate the economic efficiency and social accountability inherent in ancient organizational structures. She detailed the often-overlooked management and governance structures within Ancient Temples and Teachings, showing how these institutions functioned as early examples of successful resource management, social welfare, and financial trusteeship. The expert then demonstrated how principles rooted in Indian Heritage and Modern Relevance, such as Dharma and Karma, translate directly into modern concepts like corporate governance, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and effective stakeholder management. A significant segment of the lecture was dedicated to linking this ancient wisdom to the NEP 2020's call for holistic, value-based, and interdisciplinary education, stressing that Indian philosophical traditions offer a robust framework for ethical and sustainable management education. Following the lecture, the institution formally expressed its gratitude through the Felicitation Ceremony, where Dr. Manisha Shukla was presented with a memento and a traditional scarf by the Dean, recognizing her profound contribution. The successful session concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks, delivered by Dr. Sapan Asthana, appreciating the presence of the expert, the enthusiasm of the audience, and the overall support of the university management.

Students’ feedback: The feedback received from the attending students across various management programs was overwhelmingly positive and highly encouraging. Students unanimously agreed that the lecture provided a truly unique and refreshing perspective on economic studies. The discussion on NEP-2020 alignment and its call for a holistic approach resonated strongly, motivating students to pursue a broader, more value-driven education rather than a purely skills-based one. Lastly, the highly Interactive Engagement during the Q&A session was cited as particularly valuable, allowing students to directly challenge and engage with the philosophical and economic concepts.
