 “Women Safety & Anti-Harassment Awareness Program”

 in observance of Human Rights Day

Organised by: Maharishi School of Humanities (MUIT Lucknow Campus) in association with WGRC and IQAC

Objective: In compliance with the University Grants Commission (UGC) notification D.O. No. F. 91-3/2024 (GS) dated 14 Agrahan 1947 / 05 December 2025, regarding the observance of “16 Days of Annual Activism for Ending Gender-Based Violence” from 25 November to 10 December, Maharishi School of Humanities (MUIT Lucknow Campus), in association with WGRC and IQAC organized a “Women Safety & Anti-Harassment Awareness Program” on 10 December 2025, marking Human Rights Day.

The primary objective of the programme was to raise awareness among students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff about women’s safety, the prevention of harassment, and the importance of institutional mechanisms for grievance redressal. The session emphasized the promotion of a culture rooted in respect, dignity, equality, and security within the academic environment, in alignment with the guidelines and spirit of the UGC advisory.

Participating Students: Female students of different Schools & Women Employees, of MUIT Lucknow Campus.

Program Details: The event began with a motivational message by Dean Academics Dr. Neeraj Jain (Chairperson ICC and WGRC, MUIT Lucknow Campus). The awareness program featured an insightful and impactful lecture by Dr. Rupam Singh (Dean MSOH, Member WGRC) who elaborated on critical issues related to women’s safety in educational institutions and workplaces. She emphasized the importance of awareness, vigilance, and preventive measures to ensure a safe and harassment-free environment for women.

Dr. Rupam Singh highlighted the significance of institutional mechanisms such as WGRC, explaining its roles, responsibilities, and procedures for reporting and addressing complaints related to harassment. She encouraged students and faculty members to be informed about these mechanisms and to approach them without fear or hesitation whenever required. The lecture strongly emphasized the need to cultivate a respectful, inclusive, and secure learning environment, where every individual feels safe and empowered. As part of the awareness initiative, participants were also informed about important support services such as women safety helpline numbers which serve as immediate assistance mechanisms in cases of distress. The session further addressed the social issue of Bal Vivah emphasizing legal provisions, preventive measures, and the role of educational institutions in eradicating child marriage. Additionally, information about Mission Shakti was shared, highlighting government-led initiatives aimed at empowering women through safety, support, and self-reliance.The session underscored empowerment, awareness, and collective responsibility as the core pillars of campus safety.

The programme successfully sensitized participants to issues of women’s safety and anti-harassment measures. It enhanced awareness about preventive strategies, reporting procedures, and the importance of institutional support systems. The interactive nature of the session encouraged participants to engage actively and reflect on their role in maintaining a safe and supportive campus culture. The event was coordinated by Dr. Rupam Singh (Member, WGRC, MUIT Lucknow Campus), and the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. R.P. Dixit.

Students Feedback: The students expressed their appreciation for the awareness programme, stating that the session was informative, relevant, and highly engaging. Many students found the discussion on women’s safety, preventive measures, and anti-harassment policies particularly useful, as it helped them better understand their rights and responsibilities within the campus environment.
