A Report on Visit to
‘Kisan Mela’ at CSIR-CIMAP -Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow

The CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CSIR-CIMAP) in Lucknow is hosting its annual Kisan Mela on January 30-31, 2025. This two-day event aims to disseminate advanced cultivation techniques and marketing strategies for medicinal and aromatic plants to farmers and entrepreneurs. The Chief Guest for today’s event was Dr. G.N. Singh, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh while the Guest of Honor was Dr. Vijay Bahadur Dwivedi, Director, Horticulture and Food Processing, Lucknow.
The students had an opportunity to witness live demonstrations of modern distillation units and learn about sustainable agriculture practices and the integration of medicinal and aromatic plants into traditional cropping systems. The students also attended the interaction among scientists, industry experts, and farmers discussing improved cultivation methods and marketing strategies for MAPs. The attendees also had the opportunity to purchase high-quality planting materials and access publications on important MAPs.
Besides this, event also organised training sessions on producing incense sticks, rose water, and eco-friendly cutlery from floral and aromatic crop waste. In this Kisan Mela two high yielding varieties were also launched: CIM-Sangam (Rose-Scented Geranium).
The Kisan Mela 2025 serves as a significant platform for knowledge exchange, enabling participants to stay updated on the latest advancements in the cultivation and marketing of medicinal and aromatic plants.
A total number of 50 students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Ag IV M.Sc. Horticulture (Fruit Science) and M.Sc. (Ag.) Agronomy, participated in this visit under the faculty co- coordinators- Dr. Dheeraj Yadav, Assistant Professor and Dr. Ashish Nath, Assistant Professor (MSOSH).
The Co-coordinators extend their gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (Prof. Bhanu Pratap Singh), Registrar (Dr. Girish Chhimwal), Dean Academics Dr. Neeraj Jain, Dean-MSOSH, Dr. Rupam Singh, Deputy Dean Dr. Ramakant, Sr. AO (Mr. Rajesh Singh) for their support and encouragement for the visit.
