“From Resume to Reality: A workshop on Personality Development and Interview Preparation”

Organised by: Maharishi School of Business Management (in coordination with IQAC)

Objective:

A workshop on Personality Development and Interview Preparation was organized by Maharishi School of Business Management, MUIT Lucknow Campus, from 27th January to 31st January 2025, to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge to navigate the competitive job market successfully.

Participating Students:120+ students of MBA, BBA, M. Com, and B. Com (Final Year).

Event Details:

On 27th January 2025, the 5-day workshop was inaugurated with a traditional Guru Pujan, followed by encouraging words from Dean Academics, Dr Neeraj Jain, and a welcome address by Dean, MSOBM, Dr Sandhya Sinha. The first session of the workshop was conducted by Dr Kaumudi Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Science & Humanities, HBTU, Kanpur. Dr Singh delivered an insightful session on "Introduction to Personality Development, Communication Skills, Interpersonal Skills, and Soft Skills." We learned extensively about how our communication styles impact others.

Day 2 of the workshop, on 28th January 2025, focused on "Resume & Cover Letter Writing" and "Job Search Strategies," led by Dr Vinod Kumar Yadav from Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur. Dr Yadav guided participants through the intricacies of crafting effective resumes and cover letters, emphasizing the importance of tailoring them to specific roles and industries. He also shared valuable insights on leveraging online platforms, networking strategies, and job search techniques. We are grateful for his expertise and guidance.

On 29th January 2025, day 3 featured a session by Dr Saurabh Agrawal, a consultant to IBM and UNESCO and an IITian, who shared invaluable insights on "Presentation Skills" and "MS Excel Advance." The energy in the room was palpable as students eagerly anticipated diving into the world of MS Excel. The session covered a wide range of essential formulas, including SUM, COUNT, AVERAGE, and many more. Dr. Agrawal's session effectively blended theory with practical application.

Days 4 and 5, on 30th and 31st January 2025, were led by Ms. Richa Ghai from Frankfinn, providing an amazing experience. Both the days provided a platform for an interactive deep dive into interview preparation, group discussions, and mock interviews. Students actively participated, eager to learn practical tips and tricks from Richa's expert guidance. From crafting compelling narratives to mastering group discussion dynamics, each session proved to be a revelation. Students bravely took the stage, putting their skills to the test.

Each day of the workshop began with a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, welcome note by Dean, Dr Sandhya Sinha, and concluded with a closing remark by DSW, Dr Sapan Asthana and heartfelt vote of thanks by Deputy Dean, Dr Pawan Kumar Verma. This journey  was an enriching amalgam of soft skills training, hands-on experience, and impactful interview and mock interview sessions. Students actively participated throughout the sessions, asking questions, sharing insights, and collaborating on solutions.

Students’ feedback:

Student feedback on the "From Resume to Reality" workshop was overwhelmingly positive. Ms. Suramya, an MBA IV Semester student, stated, "The workshop was incredibly insightful and informative. The sessions on interview preparation and mock interviews were particularly helpful, and the feedback provided by the speakers was invaluable." Mr. Ayush Pandey, a BBA student, shared, "I gained a deeper understanding of the job market and learned valuable skills like resume writing, cover letter crafting, and effective communication. The workshop significantly boosted my confidence”. Numerous students from the Commerce and Management departments echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the workshop's insightful nature and the knowledge and engagement of the speakers. They particularly appreciated the supportive and interactive learning environment, which fostered a comfortable space for asking questions and practicing acquired skills. The workshop concluded with group photos, capturing the memories and connections made.
