Report on Industrial Visit to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Lucknow

Objective:

The purpose of the visit was to provide students with real-world insights into the functioning of a leading IT company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and to understand the working environment, career opportunities and expectations from fresh graduates entering the IT industry. This aligned with the goal of enhancing students' practical knowledge and preparing them for future careers in the IT sector.

 

Participants: BCA & MCA, Maharishi School of Engineering & Technology, MUIT Lucknow

 

Key Interactions:

Mr. Abhishek Saxena - Head of Academic Alliance, TCS Lucknow, introduced TCS, elaborating on the company's vision and mission in the IT sector. He shared important career insights and provided guidance on cracking TCS's entry-level employment examination and interview process. His practical tips on resume building, problem-solving, and communication skills were highly appreciated by the students.

Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh - State Head, TCS, addressed the students and delivered a motivational speech, focusing on personal development and professional growth. He emphasized the importance of continuously upgrading one's knowledge, staying connected within the tech ecosystem, and maintaining good health. Dr. Singh also highlighted the key values of TCS, including discipline, work culture, and integrity, which are essential for becoming a successful employee.

 

Key Observations:

  • TCS maintains high standards of security with stringent checks and verification processes. This ensured a professional and secure working environment.
  • The office has multiple floors, each dedicated to different operations. We visited the Offshore Development Center(ODC), where employees work on global projects. The canteen facilities were well-organized, providing a pleasant environment for employees.
  • TCS fosters a culture of discipline, collaboration, and continuous learning, which is evident in the behavior and demeanor of the employees. Students were impressed by the professional work ethics and the focus on creating a balanced work environment.

Learning Outcomes:

The visit provided the students with a deeper understanding of:

  • The importance of soft skills along with technical knowledge to excel in the corporate world.
  • How TCS's work culture and values play a significant role in shaping employees' careers.
  • Practical insights on how to prepare for recruitment exams and interviews, particularly for TCS.

The visit to TCS Lucknow was highly educational and inspiring for the students.
