Industrial Visit to Parag Dairy, Lucknow Plant

Objective:

On 19th February 2025, a group of 45 students from the B.Com IV Semester at Maharishi School of Business Management, Maharishi University of Information Technology, Lucknow, embarked on an industrial visit to the Parag Dairy Plant in Lucknow. This visit was organized as part of the curriculum to provide students with practical exposure to the operations of a large-scale dairy processing facility and to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications in the field of business management. The visit was facilitated and accompanied by faculty members Dr Pawan Kumar Verma and Dr Anjuly Singh.

Visit Details:

Upon arriving at the Parag Dairy Plant, the student group was greeted by Plant head, who provided a brief overview of Parag's history, product range, and market presence. The students then embarked on a guided tour of the facility, beginning with the milk reception and testing area, where they observed the collection, quality testing, and storage of raw milk, learning about the parameters used to ensure its quality and suitability for processing.

The tour continued to the processing unit, showcasing the various stages of milk processing, including pasteurization, homogenization, and standardization, and the sophisticated machinery involved. In the packaging area, students witnessed the automated packaging of milk and milk products in diverse formats and learned about the role of packaging in maintaining product quality and shelf life. The visit also included a tour of the quality control laboratory, where students gained insights into the rigorous testing procedures employed throughout the production process. The tour included a video presentation and demonstration, further enhancing the students' understanding of the plant's operations. Finally, the group explored the storage and distribution network, including the crucial cold chain management for perishable milk products.

During the tour, students had the opportunity to interact with plant personnel and ask questions related to the production process, quality control, marketing, and distribution. The plant staff explained the technical aspects of the operations and shared their experiences in the dairy industry.

Students’ feedback:

The students expressed overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the industrial visit. They appreciated the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the dairy industry's operations, from milk procurement to product distribution. The interactive explanations and the opportunity to observe the production process first-hand were particularly valuable. Students found the emphasis on quality control, hygiene, and sustainability to be particularly insightful.

The industrial visit to the Parag Dairy Plant was a highly informative and enriching experience for the B.Com IV Semester students. It provided them with a valuable opportunity to connect their classroom learning with real-world applications and gain practical insights into the dairy industry. The Maharishi School of Business Management is grateful to the management and staff of Parag Milk Plant for their cooperation and for providing such a valuable learning experience for the students.
