Objective: Maharishi School of Engineering & Technology, Lucknow in association with Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, organized Virtual Labs Workshop on 17th April, 2025. The workshop aimed to make use of remote access to advanced lab equipment, find areas where new experiments can be developed in partnership with IIT Roorkee under the Virtual Lab project, and follow the New Education Policy by using digital tools and encouraging hands-on, multi-subject learning.
Participating Students: B. Tech & Diploma students of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science Engineering
Event Details: The session was conducted by Mr. Chetan and Mr. Amit Sharma, experienced Project Associates at IIT Roorkee with a long-standing association with the Virtual Labs initiative. They introduced students to the concept of Virtual Labs, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT), aimed at enhancing practical learning through digital platforms.
The workshop covered various aspects such as the significance and benefits of Virtual Labs, demonstrations of virtual experiments replicating real lab environments, and the user-friendly features of the virtual lab platforms. The resource persons emphasized the roles that students and faculty can play in exploring and contributing to the platform, as well as the scope for developing new lab modules in collaboration with IIT Roorkee. The session also highlighted how these virtual tools can complement regular lab work and promote better understanding through hands-on digital experiences.
In addition, students were informed about internship and collaborative opportunities offered by IIT Roorkee under this initiative, providing exposure to real-time projects and research. It was proudly shared that MUIT Lucknow serves as a Zonal Center for Virtual Labs (IIT Roorkee), playing an important role in expanding access to quality lab education across the region. The workshop proved to be an enriching experience for students and faculty, aligning with the goals of the New Education Policy by promoting interactive, multidisciplinary, and technology-driven learning.
The event was successfully coordinated by Dr. Gaurav Shukla, Mr. Anupam Gautam, and Mr. Daljeet Pal Singh.
Students’ feedback: The Virtual Lab Workshop was a highly informative and engaging experience for us as students. It provided a clear understanding of how virtual experiments can effectively simulate real lab environments, making practical learning more accessible and flexible. The demonstrations were easy to follow and highlighted the wide range of subjects covered by Virtual Labs.
We also found the information about internship and collaboration opportunities with IIT Roorkee very encouraging, as it offers valuable exposure to real-world projects. Overall, the session inspired us to actively explore and use Virtual Labs as a part of our academic growth.
