Objective of the Visit
The purpose of this visit was to educate the students towards various ongoing research activities in the premier research labs, and to motivate the young minds for pursuing their careers in science and explore the knowledge of seed production. A batch of more than 45 students of B. Sc. (IV Semester) & M.Sc. (Zoology and Botany II Semester) participated in this program. The visit was flagged off by Dean-Academics (Lucknow Campus), Dr. Sapan Asthana, who motivated the group towards the role and objectives of this research-oriented visit.

At BSIP, a brief presentation highlighting the activities and achievements of BSIP, the opportunities for graduate and postgraduate students, and the challenges in fossil investigation, identification and preservation were presented by Dr. Sanjay Singh. He also briefed about the fossils, museum specimens, geological time scale and main technical part of fossil discovery i.e., its analytical, biological, and chemical methods and procedures, and also introduced BSIP’s past and present important international discoveries.
The students visited the Museum, Repository and different labs of multiple specialities equipped with Scanning Electron Microscopy, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, Carbon Dating, Geochemistry etc. In addition to the above, Dr. Gaurav, Dr. Hukam Singh, Dr. Shivali and their project associates also gave demonstrations of Fossil cutting, preparation, and carbon dating technique. They also gave an introductory and informative talk on the future research prospects. The students received valuable exposure to the practical aspects of Palaeosciences including fossils preservation and age determination, section-cutting methods, carbon dating methods, geological time scale study, and conservation & management techniques. During the visit, the students also interacted with the scientific and technical staff and had an opportunity to explore prospects towards Palaeosciences, Geology and interesting discoveries of Earth’s history. It was a very informative and insightful visit.
MUIT team extends heartfelt gratitude to all principal scientists, scientists and technical staff of BSIP, Lucknow who spared their valuable time to share their knowledge and interact with our students, and also to our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (Prof. Bhanu Pratap Singh), Dr. Sapan Asthana (Dean-Academics), Dr. Ramakant (Dean, School of Science) who extended all their guidance and cooperation in making this trip possible.
The event was successfully organized by Dr. Sneha Verma (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Zoology), and Dr. Madhu Prakash Srivastava (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Botany).
