Intellectual Property Rights and Patent Design

Resource Person: Dr. Vivek Srivastava, Head & Senior Principal Scientist, Planning and Technology Transfer and Business Development Division (TTBD), CSIR- National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow. Objective of the Event: The main objective of this event is to impart awareness about the issues of Intellectual Property Rights, Copyrights and Patent filling process. Description of Event:The programme started with the welcome of all the dignitaries and participants by Dr. Sneha Verma (Convener, Patent and IPR Committee) followed by lamp lighting and the pooja of Maa Saraswati and Maharishi Ji to seek their blessings. The lecture was organized in hybrid mode (offline and online). Dr. Sneha Verma gave a brief overview of the topic, followed by opening remarks and a brief introduction of the Guest Speaker by Dr. Sapan Asthana (Dean-Academics). Thereafter, Dr. Vivek Srivastava, through his lecture, discussed the issues and challenges related to patent filing along with the process and approval of patents in India. He gave a brilliant and insightful discourse on the fundamentals of Intellectual Property Rights and best practices for the integration of IPR in the innovation cycle. He emphasized that the IPR system provides a platform for sharing one’s creations without the fear of infringement of their right over it, and illustrated the care one should take to protect their innovations prior to the sharing process. He focused on Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks and researchers’ Rights with related case studies. He emphasized that IPR have to be renewed from time to time for keeping them enforced except in case of copyright and trade secrets. The lecture was followed by very interesting interactive session with intense participant involvement. The programme concluded by a vote of thanks by Dr. Shikhar Verma (Member, Patent and IPR committee). More than 200 participants, including students and faculty members from Lucknow and Noida campuses, were present for the session. The whole programme was successfully organized and coordinated by the Convener (Dr. Sneha Verma) and members (Dr. Shikhar Verma, Dr. Renu Singh, Dr. Gaurav Shukla, and Dr. Vijay Kumar) of Patent and IPR Committee of MUIT Lucknow Campus, under the guidance and motivation of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) Bhanu Pratap Singh; Registrar, Prof. (Dr.) Akhand Pratap Singh; Deputy Registrar, Shri Girish Chhimwal; Dean Academics, Dr. Sapan Asthana. The patent and IPR Committee team thanked all the faculty members, staff, and IT team for making this event successful.
