“Kisan Mela”
(CSIR- Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow)
Objective of the Visit: – The purpose of visit was to update students about various ongoing research activities related to farming and farmers and to motivate the young minds for working towards the benefit of the society.
Participating Students: – 34 students of B.Sc. (Ag.) (I & IV Semesters).
The visit was flagged off by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor (Prof. Bhanu Pratap Singh), Dean Academics (Lucknow Campus), Dr. Sapan Asthana, and Dean-MSOS (Dr. Ramakant) who motivated the group towards the role and objectives of the educational tour and to maintain decorum during the visit.
In “Kisan Mela” the students had an opportunity to interact with various scientists and visit the labs etc. Dr. Tripta Jhang delivered a short lecture on Crop improvement and Cultivation of Ashwagandha. Dr. Anil Kumar Singh delivered a lecture on Tulsi cultivation. Dr. Sudeep Tandon gave a brief lecture about the distillation process of aromatic plants at the Chemical Engineering and Distillation Unit. The students also visited medicinal and aromatic plants product stalls and demonstration field where many varieties of medicinal and aromatic plants are planted. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh delivered a lecture on observatory instruments of Agro-meterology. The students also got an opportunity to meet and interact with Dr. Hygna (Assistant Professor, NEHU, Meghalaya) and Dr. Bansal (Ret. Senior Principal Scientist, CSIR-CIMAP) which was very enriching experience for the students.
2nd February 2023
During the trip the students also got an opportunity to visit the Manav Garden. In the ‘Manav Garden’ Mr. Himanshu Yadav, Project Assistant (Department of Technology Dissemination Division and Computational Biology) enlightened the students about the importance of Aromatic and Medicinal plants for curing various ailments of particular body parts.
The visit was organized successfully under the Faculty Co-ordinators- Dr. Dheeraj Yadav, Dr. Monika Singh and Mr. Ashish Kumar Awasthi.
